The training

A school that was born on this lake.

Breath Body Earth is a holistic yoga school run by two friends, Rachael and Melissa, and they teach yoga as a complete healing system: philosophy, somatic asana, breath and self-inquiry, over three weeks that go deep. Guatemala is where the school began and where it lived for years, so this cohort is a homecoming for them, and the practice happens above the volcanic skyline it grew up in.

Yoga as a complete healing system

Three weeks inside the philosophy and the practice: ancient texts, physical and energetic anatomy, self-inquiry work and teaching methodology. You leave holding the whole system.

Somatic and process-driven

The school teaches to the sensation of a pose and to the alignment that is right for your body. Their word for it is process-driven: you work with what your body offers on the day.

Half of it on the mat

About half the time is asana, Vinyasa and Hatha, with daily workshops that break each posture into its parts, find the misalignment and correct it pose by pose.

The subtle side, taken seriously

Chakras, breath and the energetic body studied alongside the anatomical one. In their words, the subtle, unexplainable and mystical is important to them, and it sits right beside the physical facts.

You practise outdoors

You practise outdoors

The shala is covered and open to the air, set between the trees with the lake horizon in front of you. You practise in mountain air, at 1,600 metres.

You are fed well

You are fed well

Three organic, locally sourced meals a day from our own kitchen. Vegan and gluten-free are ordinary here.

You sleep on the land

You sleep on the land

Your room for all 22 nights: cabins, a tree house, safari tents, the Tea Temple. Every one of them is a few minutes' walk from the shala.

The rhythm

What a day actually looks like.

Full, and paced so you can keep it up for three weeks. Times move a little with the weather and the group. This is the shape Breath Body Earth teach to.
  1. 6:30SadhanaPractice before the day starts, with the lake still and the light coming up over the volcanoes.
  2. 8:30BreakfastCooked here. You eat together, then the teaching begins.
  3. 9:30Lecture, methodology, workshopAncient texts, teaching methodology, and the workshop that takes a posture apart piece by piece.
  4. 13:00Lunch, and a real pauseThe middle of the day is yours. Most people end up in the lake or asleep under a tree.
  5. 15:00Afternoon workshopAlignment, the chakras and the breath: the body from the anatomical and the energetic side at once.
  6. 17:00Practice teachingYou teach, and then you hear the truth, kindly, from people who want you to be good at this.
  7. 19:00Dinner, and sometimes moreEvenings are usually open. Some carry on with fire, kirtan or a talk.

The kitchen

Herbalist cooking, with the science behind it.

Three organic meals a day, cooked here, mostly from what grows around the lake. Our kitchen works with local herbs and with the nutrition behind them, so the food carries you through a full teaching day. Vegan and gluten-free are ordinary here, and every meal is blessed before anyone eats.

In their own words

Students who did this training.

From people who trained here

The ones who already came.

Guests and trainees who stayed at Arco Isis during a teacher training on this land.

The sanctuary is beautiful and an oasis from the busy streets of San Marcos. The location of the yoga shala is exquisite and it was a joy to have cats and dogs on site as they provided companionship and happiness.

When I booked my room with access to a private bathroom, I did not expect to stay in the absolutely beautiful Tea Temple!!! This space is gorgeous, serene, and very comfortable. Paulina ensured that I had everything I needed throughout my training and this accommodation exceeded my expectations. Thank you for providing this space to me.
Kim StixYoga teacher training
Incredible! Paulina made sure our yogi student group had everything we needed, provided us with detailed information in making arrangements for transportation and activities, and the entire Arco Isis staff made me feel welcomed, safe, and comfortable during my entire training.

The rest of the year

This date is one of several.

The same training runs more than once a year here. If these weeks are wrong for you, another set will fit, and the group is small enough that people book a long way ahead.

Questions people ask.

Do I need to be advanced?
It suits dedicated practitioners who are ready to teach, and healing practitioners who want yoga inside the work they already do. You can arrive with a steady home practice and zero teaching experience, and plenty of people do.
Do I have to want to teach?
Plenty of people take a 200hr to go deeper into their own practice. You leave certified either way, and the mentorship afterwards is yours whether you end up teaching or keep it for yourself.
What does it cost?
Prices begin at $3,300 and depend on which room you choose, with payment plans available. Breath Body Earth handle the tuition, the plans and any scholarships, so ask them directly and they will walk you through it.
Who are the teachers?
Breath Body Earth's own faculty: Melissa (co-founder, 300HR E-RYT), Rachael (co-founder, 500HR E-RYT) and Emilie (500HR RYT). Guatemala is where the school was born, so coming back to this lake is a homecoming for them.
Where exactly is this?
San Marcos La Laguna, on Lake Atitlán, ringed by three volcanoes. Arco Isis sits on reforested mountain land ten minutes up from the dock. Boats run all day from Panajachel.
Who takes my payment?
Breath Body Earth. It is their training and their certification. Arco Isis is the sanctuary that holds it: the land, the rooms, the kitchen and the shala. Ask either of us anything.

Still deciding? Email hello@arcoisisatitlan.com and a real person answers.
